Campaign Manager - Campaign Manager (Silverlight)

Seeds In Cells

If your Campaign contains cells it is important to understand how seeds are processed within the cell.

Note: If the cell name is in the template, then it must be in the seed file.

Because seeds are randomly inserted over the entire range of rows that are output, if the data spans multiple output blocks, insertions will be made evenly across these blocks. If cell limits are in place, seeds do not count towards these limits. For example, if there is a limit of 100 and there are 10 seeds, the output will be 110.

If your output file creative splits files by cell the following will happen:

  • The seeds will be written into every file (even if there is no 'real' data for that cell).
  • If cell name is output as a field, its value will be chosen to be consistent with the file (the data in the seeds file will not be used in this scenario).
  • If any records exist in the real data that have a cell unset, they will be added to a file without any cell name. The seeds are not added to this 'no cell' file.

If your output creative puts all the seeds into a single file the following will happen:

  • The seeds will be inserted only once.
  • If the cell name is output as a field, the value from the seeds file will be used.

Note: Email Manager events created by the Email Manager back end system may still be captured by EM, but are not processed and the seeds are not Campaign recipients. The activity log does not include the number of seeds that have been output, just the number of recipients.
